Imagine the significance of being the leading streaming platform in the world.
Also imagine the delight of getting the venerated Manoj Bajpayee star in an original series for you – that too in two different roles!
And then imagine the horror of promoting it so badly that almost no one outside the realm of social media knows anything about it or has even heard of it!
If you haven’t guessed it by now already, we’re talking about streaming giant Netflix, and its Poor marketing strategy for its upcoming original series ‘Killer Soup’, starring none other than the exciting pair of Manoj Bajpayee and Konkona Sensharma.
We call Netflix’s promo strategy for Killer Soup Poor for a reason. For Netflix has ensured that there’s zero buzz for Killer Soup – on social media and in the real world. No one’s talking about Killer Soup, no one is excited for it, a lot of people haven’t even heard about it, and there’s zero chatter on social media platforms such as X, Reddit, Instagram, et al about Killer Soup.
If you, like most, don’t know about it, let us tell you that Killer Soup premieres on Netflix at 1:30 pm on 11th January, which is today. It is a black comedy, starring Manoj Bajpayee and Konkona Sensharma, and comes from the acclaimed hand of filmmaker Abhishek Chaubey, director of stellar films such as Ishqiya, Udta Punjab and Sonchiriya. What’s more, Manoj Bajpayee is playing a dual role in the series.
Surprised? You should be. Proves how clunky, creaky and rundown Netflix’s marketing engine is!
Let’s face it – Manoj Bajpayee is hot property on OTT. If it was any other platform about to premiere a Manoj Bajpayee original series, they would have promoted it to the skies, with Manoj Bajpayee as the center of attraction. Think Prime Video’s The Family Man, ZEE5’s Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai (Banda), and Disney Plus Hotstar’s Gulmohar — all headlined by Manoj Bajpayee; and how these streamers went to town promoting the titles and Manoj Bajpayee in it.
Then circle back to Netflix, and review their next to zero promotion of their first Manoj Bajpayee original title – atrocious and sucky it is!
To put it honestly, given their sloppy, neglectful, careless, lax, indifferent attitude and complete disregard for the talent of an actor of Manoj Bajpayee’s stature, Netflix doesn’t deserve an actor of his caliber in any of their productions.
But if you do have the great Manoj Bajpayee in your original series, with the equally stellar Konkona Sensharma along with him, the least you can do is promote it well.
Are you listening, Netflix?
