If there is something that makes horror and thriller visual media more captivating and chilling, it is the message “Based on true events”. It makes things real-er and the viewers start imagining themselves in those situations, thereby making the experience more immersive.
A title that plays along those lines is an upcoming thriller Marathi-language series from SonyLiv. ‘Manvat Murders’, based on the seven brutal killings of three young girls and four women that took place in a small village in Maharashtra in the 1970s. The show follows the almost-two-year-long pursuit for the killers as the police struggled against time to catch them.
Streaming on 4th October exclusively on Sony LIV, the series stars Ashutosh Gowariker, Makarand Anaspure, Sonali Kulkarni, and Sai Tamhankar in the lead roles. It will draw inspiration from the autobiography of Ramakant S. Kulkarni, the cop from Mumbai in charge of the case, ‘Footprints on the Sand of Crime’.
Throughout the episodes, he will be seen showcasing the unwavering commitment, resilience, and perseverance to unravel the mysterious murders occurring in rural Maharashtra during the 1970s.
The recently released trailer paints a harrowing and eerie picture as additional police forces are called upon to arrest suspect after suspect, until finally, the real culprit(s) are put behind bars.
