Nikhil Majahan‘s dramatic masterpiece, Godavari, first premiered at Vancouver International Film Festival in October 2021. Then it got dispatched to Indian theatres a couple of months later. The Marathi movie ended up winning the hearts of the majority of film critics and viewers. And now it is ready to create history at this year’s upcoming New York Indian Film Festival. Here’s what we know about it.
Godavari has been chosen as the opening movie by the jury members of NYIFF 2022. Apart from helming and producing the project, Mahajan also served as one of the screenwriters for the film along with Prajakt Deshmukh. Shamin Kulkarni‘s cinematography and AV Prafullachandra’s musical score also received praises from a lot of viewers. Additionally, the duo of Blue Drop Films and Jitendra Joshi Pictures is responsible for handling the movie’s production duties.
The film’s plot revolves around a middle-class family, residing in Nashik. This place is considered one of the ancient holy cities in Maharashtra and is also situated on the banks of the Godavari river.
Godavari stars Jitendra Joshi, Neena Kulkarni, Vikram Gokhale, Gauri Nalawade, Priyadarshan Jadhav, Ameet Dograa, Sakhi Gokhale, Sanjay Mone, and Pavan Malu. The Marathi movie bagged a couple of awards at last year’s International Film Festival of India. The leading man, Joshi, won the IFFI Best Actor Award there. Plus, helmer Nikhil Mahajan got his hands on the Special Jury Award.
