One of the latest reports from Deadline has confirmed that Marvel has big plans for May Calamawy’s Layla, who later became Scarlet Scarab in the Disney+ Moon Knight series. MCU played the ‘gender swap game’ on the superhero character by choosing Layla as Scarlet Scarab in the show. It is not the first time Marvel has done something like this.
Calamawy’s take on Layla and Scarlet Scarab was one of the series’ brightest points. Her performance received critical acclaim from critics and fans. Some may argue that the show served as an acting exercise platform for both Calamawy and Oscar Issac rather than focusing on their respective characters’ journeys. Still, both performers gave their all.
According to Deadline, several industry insiders strongly believe that Marvel Studios is preparing to create a solo project based on Calamawy’s Scarlet Scarab. Although, the studio is yet to make an official announcement about this scenario. It means that this rumour is nothing but speculation. But we cannot deny that she needs her own project in the MCU.
Speaking of Moon Knight, we also do not know when Isaac will reprise his role of the Fist of Khonshu. It is not clear when Marvel will commence working on the second season of Moon Knight. He will return to the MCU at some point; we just do not know when that will happen. This is what Isaac said about his MCU return some time ago:
“All I can say is that it’s not the last we’ve heard of the system that is Moon Knight,” Isaac said.
On the other hand, the series’ director, Mohamed Diab, thinks that Moon Knight could return to the superhero franchise through a movie. All episodes of the show are available on Disney+ Hotstar. Stay tuned for more updates.
