Marvel Won’t Make WandaVision Or Agatha Season 2—Here’s Why
If you are waiting for Agatha All Along Season 2 or WandaVision Season 2, prepare to be disappointed.
Patti LuPone, best known for playing Lilia Calderu in Agatha All Along, has revealed why showrunner Jac Schaeffer is not interested in creating a second season for either show. She shared this insight during her recent interview with Andy Cohen on his SiriusXM podcast, Andy Cohen Live.
“Jac Schaeffer, the creator, came into my trailer and she said, ‘Patti, I’m just here to tell you that Lilia’s going to die,’ and I went, ‘But I wanted a second season…’ [Schaffer] said, ‘I don’t do second seasons. She said, ‘They wanted me to do a second season of Wanda Vision and I didn’t.’ She said, ‘There’s too much to write,’ so she does one-offs and I’m really hoping and praying that someday I get to work with her again because she’s magic.”
WandaVision gave Marvel Television a strong start in 2021. The show remained the most-watched TV title in January 2024 and earned an impressive 91% “fresh” score on Rotten Tomatoes. In terms of storyline, it is best to keep WandaVision as a miniseries rather than continue it with a second season.
WandaVision’s flawless, bold, and innovative blend of the sitcom format, magic, and sci-fi elements made it unforgettable. The series also paid homage to classic sitcoms from different eras. Given how the story culminated—with the collapse of the Hex and Westview, which also led to the destruction of Vision and Wanda’s children, Billy and Tommy—it feels unnecessary to create another season.
After losing her family in WandaVision, Wanda goes berserk in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, wreaking havoc across the Multiverse in an attempt to reunite with her lost children. This reinforces the idea that WandaVision should remain a standalone title.
However, things are a bit different with Agatha All Along. The show was originally conceived as a miniseries, but since it leaves the door open for a possible second season, we can still keep our hopes alive for a potential sophomore season.
The finale of Agatha All Along, titled “Maiden Mother Crone,” ends with Billy and Agatha working together to find Tommy, Billy’s twin brother. A second season could explore the intriguing relationship between these two characters in various ways. Additionally, we have yet to see a grown-up version of Tommy, who could appear in Season 2 if Marvel officially greenlights it in the future.
Given Patti LuPone’s recent comments about Jac Schaeffer’s intentions, it seems unlikely that Marvel will give Billy and Agatha their own respective shows. However, their storylines may continue in other future Marvel projects. Stay tuned for more updates.
