Talking about content saturation, Marvel has been a master in that craft, but recent changes suggest things will change sooner than we anticipate.
It is being observed that Marvel is changing its strategy regarding the content it plans to release on small screens. Previously, there were complaints that Marvel saturated the industry with an overflow of series, but this is changing.
Marvel is actively trying to limit its releases to three shows. The pipeline includes “Agatha All Along,” “Daredevil: Born Again,” and “Ironheart.” But it’s not just the titles that make this experience better; Marvel is also bringing a retro touch. “Echo” was a big hit in terms of getting out of the Disney mold, and now things are changing in the most successful franchise.
Additionally, Marvel is reintroducing the Marvel Television label, which will definitely invoke a feeling of nostalgia. But the question remains: how will this help the audience be selective about the content?
Marvel Studios Head of TV, Streaming, and Animation, Brad Winderbaum, had something to say about the future of Marvel’s small screen content, and it is definitely exciting.
“We want to make sure that Marvel stays an open door for people to come in and explore,” Winderbaum revealed. “On the heels of Endgame, I think there was, maybe, a little bit of an obligation to watch absolutely everything in order to watch anything.”
“As you know, as a comics fan, they’re designed to just pop in, find something that you like, and use that to enter you into the universe, and then you can explore and weave around based on your own preferences.”
“So part of the rebranding of Marvel Studios, Marvel Television, Marvel Animation, even Marvel Spotlight is to, I think, try to tell the audience, ‘You can jump in anywhere. They’re interconnected but they’re not. You don’t have to watch A to enjoy B. You can follow your bliss. You can follow your own preferences and find the thing you want within the tapestry of Marvel.’” Winderbaum is giving the fans a choice when it comes to selecting content.
This approach will definitely benefit the fans, especially the casual watchers. If you are a hardcore fan, you will obviously watch everything, but if not, Marvel will make it easier for you. At least that’s what they are promising.
