One of Marvel’s most intriguing projects is the upcoming Blade movie upon its announcement in 2019. With its initial director leaving the project 2 weeks ago, it was assumed the studio would get his replacement quickly. But with no such talent yet on board, Marvel has postponed the release date of the movie from November 2023 to September 6, 2024.
Blade reboot’s shoot was to reportedly start in November this year. But with all that has been happening, the movie’s shoot has now, as per reports, been postponed to early 2023. The movie is not the only Marvel project to have been postponed, with ‘Deadpool 3’, the Fantastic Four reboot, and the ‘Avengers Secret Wars’ also announcing new release dates.
Blade has always been a fan-favorite and is a vampire-human hybrid. The character has been played before by Wesley Snipes in the three feature films released from 1998 to 2004. Now, Oscar winner Mahershala Ali will be taking the mantle of the character from Snipes. The new movie is being written by Beau DeMayo, known for the ‘The Witcher’ series and ‘Moon Knight’ among other big projects. There were reports of creative differences between the initial director and studio regarding the original script. Now the original script is being rewritten by DeMayo.
Marvel Comics seems to be having a hard time adapting its vampire stories into movies these days. First, it was the Sony-Marvel collaboration ‘Morbius’ flopping. Though the film is not a vampire film per se, it was the closest Marvel had come to having a vampire in their movies. Now, with Blade also running into troubles in the last few weeks, fans will have to wait half a year more to watch the superhero on the big screen. That being said, fans are still hopeful that Marvel would get the movie right despite the delays. After all, it’s a better decision to delay the film than to release a half-baked one and face the wrath of the fans.
