Just 24 hours ago, we were getting reports that the acting icon, Oscar Isaac was being tapped to play the titular role in the Disney+ Series ‘Moon Knight’. It has now been announced that Egyptian writer and director, Mohamed Diab will be helming the upcoming web series.
Diab is known for his work, which usually deals with pressing issues that the Egyptian community faces. He gained prominence in his debut film, ‘Cairo 6,7,8’, a film that highlighted the sexual harassment of women in Egypt, which were faced by women there, daily. His 2016 film ‘Clash’ was another critical hit, which was set just after political protest in 2013, which showed clashes between both pro-Muslim Brotherhood and anti-Muslim parties.
Diab has been called one of the harbingers of the Egyptian revolution, and we can’t help but agree. His films have given us an insight into the current situations of Egypt, while hitting heavy themes which are extremely heart-wrenching and painful. He has now been given a completely different type of genre to tackle by Disney and we hope that he can do this task and make it as brilliant as he has done with his previous projects.
‘Moon Knight’ is about the fictional Marvel superhero Moon Knight AKA Marc Spector, a mercenary, who also has other alter egos – a cabby by the name of Jake Lockley and a millionaire playboy named Steven Grant. He later becomes a conduit for the Egyptian Moon God, Khonshu. The series has been set to release (tentatively) in 2022.
