It’s a crowded time on OTT this weekend, but a smashing one too. Not one, not two, but a massive 12 Indian movies will premiere on OTT this weekend.
Every major platform – homegrown or global – has several buzzy Indian movies premiering this weekend. ZEE5, Disney Plus Hotstar, and Netflix have captured the cream of titles, with Prime Video India and Aha Video following close behind.
The films comprise diverse languages and genres – Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada films, in action, drama, romance and comedy genres. There’s also a hotly awaited Bollywood biggie that will premiere on OTT this Sunday.
Without much ado, let’s get down to listing out all the movies releasing on Indian OTT this weekend –
1. 12th Fail – Hindi, 29th December, Disney Plus Hotstar
12th Fail stars Vikrant Massey in the role of a village boy who dreams of cracking the tough IPS entrance exam. The rousing movie is produced, written and directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra.
2. Three Of Us – Hindi, 29th December, Netflix
Three Of Us features Shefali Shah as Shailaja Desai, who has been diagnosed with dementia. Struggling with the disease, Shailaja takes a trip to revisit her childhood and confront her traumatic past. Traveling with her husband and childhood love along the Konkan coastline, she seeks forgiveness and liberation. Swanand Kirkire plays her husband, while Jaideep Ahlawat plays her childhood love. Three Of Us is written and directed by Avinash Arun.
3. Annapoorani – Tamil, 29th December, Netflix
Annapoorani stars Nayanthara as an aspiring chef who wants to make it big in the culinary world. The film captures the hurdles she faces in her chosen field of endeavor. Also starring Jai and Sathyaraj in pivotal roles, directed by Nilesh Krishnaa.
4. Keedaa Cola – Telugu, 29th December, Aha Video
Keedaa Cola follows a bunch of friends who plan to make quick money by planting a cockroach in a bottle of cola. Starring Chaitanya Rao Madadi, Rag Mayur, Brahmanandam, Tharun Bhascker, Jeevan Kumar, Vishnu Oi, Ravindra Vijay and Raghu Ram. Written and directed by Tharun Bhascker.
5. License – Tamil, 29th December, Aha Tamil
Tamil film License follows a government school teacher who applies for a gun licence to combat child sexual abuse, and fight for the victims’ justice. Starring Rajalakshmi Senthil, Vijay Bhaarat, Radha Ravi, and Natarajan Jeevanantham, written and directed by Ganapathi Balamurugan.
6. Safed – Hindi, 29th December, ZEE5
Safed is a heartwarming story of the unconventional love between a widow and a eunuch, who, isolated and abandoned by society, find solace in each other. Stars Meera Chopra, Abhay Verma, Barkha Bisht, Chhaya Kadam and Jameel Khan. Written and directed by Sandeep Singh.
7. Once Upon Two Times – Hindi, 29th December, ZEE5
Hindi film ‘Once Upon Two Times’ follows betrothed sweethearts Ahaan and Ruhi who take a family trip which goes wrong when they find out that their parents were once embittered lovers. As they attempt to mend their past, they are forced to confront the problems of their own present. Starring Anud Singh Dhaka, Mrinal Kulkarni, Sanjay Suri, Nitesh Pandey. Directed by Sonakshi Mittal.
8. Dono – Hindi, 29th December, ZEE5
Hindi film ‘Dono’ is a romantic drama that follows the story of two strangers, Dev and Meghna. Dev, who is the friend of the bride, meets Meghna, who is the friend of the groom, at a lavish destination wedding. The film explores their relationship. Dono stars debutants Rajveer Deol (Sunny Deol’s son), and Paloma Dhillon (Poonam Dhillon’s daughter), and is directed by debutant Avnish Barjatya, son of Sooraj Barjatya.
9. Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye – Kannada, 29th December, Prime Video
Kannada movie ‘Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye’ is written and directed by Raj B Shetty, his next directorial after the seminal gangster movie, Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana. Raj B Shetty also stars as the lead in ‘Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye’, along with actress Siri Ravikumar as co-lead. It is a slow-paced romantic drama.
10. A Ranjith Cinema – Malayalam, 29th December, Netflix
Malayalam film ‘A Ranjith Cinema’ is a psychological thriller that follows an aspiring filmmaker, writing the script for his new film. As he adds horrifying fictional incidents into his script, he discovers that they are all coming true in his own real life. Will he face the same end as his fictional hero? Starring Asif Ali, Saiju Kurup, Anson Paul, Namitha Pramod, Hannah Reji Koshy and Jewel Mary. Written and directed by Nishanth Sattu.
11. Parking – Tamil, 30th December, Disney Plus Hotstar
Tamil film ‘Parking’ follows two neighbours who fall foul of each other over a parking spot. The movie shows how an issue as simple as a contentious parking spot frays the relationship between two neighbors of different generations and worldviews. Starring Harish Kalyan and Indhuja Ravichandran in lead roles, along with MS Bhaskar, Rama Rajendra, Prathana Nathan, Ilavarasu. Written and helmed by debutant, Ramkumar Balakrishnan.
12. Tiger 3 – Hindi, 31st December, Prime Video (TBA)
Hindi film Tiger 3 follows Indian intelligence agent, Tiger (Salman Khan) and his partner Zoya (Katrina Kaif), as they race against time to stop the assassination of the Pakistan PM, after they’ve been framed as traitors. Also stars Emraan Hashmi as the primary antagonist. Directed by Maneesh Sharma.
