The streaming rights of classic series are up for grabs, and there is a clamour among the giants to get them. Friends, Seinfeld, and Big Bang Theory was recently snapped up for huge prices. The last one of these has set a new record in the acquisition.
The next on the line, many believe is Mad Men. It will be available for bidding in the coming few months. That is when Lionsgate would get Mad Men worldwide distribution rights. The series will then be put in the market to get the highest bidder.
Mad Men stars John Hamm in the lead. It is multiple Emmy-Award winning drama series set in the ad agency in the sixties of America. The show was and is widely popular and with substantial critical acclaim as well. However, unlike the other three mentioned at the start, it is not a sit-com. It needs to be seen, therefore if it evokes a similar response.
The lack of any fresh current content which evokes a similar response from the viewer is the main reason for the demand. Years have passed, but there has been no alternative to the classics like Friends, and Seinfeld. They still generate huge viewership for the streaming platforms. Every platform is trying its best to have one with them.
