Mukesh Ambani’s Jio Studios has well and truly sounded the bugle of competition for prevailing Indian OTT leaders Netflix, Prime Video, Disney Plus Hotstar, ZEE5 and SonyLIV. In a glittering, star-studded event this evening, the revamped Jio Studios unveiled a massive, jaw-dropping lineup of 100 titles, spanning movies, series, genres, languages, and more.
On the anvil are prestigious projects in Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, South and Bhojpuri, across genres like action, drama, thriller, comedy, romance, biopics, horror and musicals. The content studio has also struck a production deal with SVF, the Bengali film production company. Under the deal, Jio Studios and SVF will create blockbuster-sized features from creators such as Dhrubo Banerjee, Raj Chakraborty, Anirban Bhattacharya and Srijit Mukherji, with actors such as Mithun Chakraborty, Prosenjit Chatterjee and Jisshu Sengupta.
Interestingly, Jio Studios hasn’t disclosed much information on its proposed merger with Viacom18 Studios, or the name of the new combined OTT platform created by the coming together of Jio Studios’ Jio Cinema and Viacom18’s Voot Select.
Jio Studios shared a glitzy sizzle reel, showcasing all that its coming up with in the near future. And yes, the showreel gives us glimpses of soon to premiere on OTT movies such as Bhediya and Vikram Vedha, along with new content in the form of movies – Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki, Shahid Kapoor’s Bloody Daddy, The Storyteller, Mumbaikar, and more. Also showcased is glimpses of upcoming series on Jio Cinema, including Nana Patekar’s Laal Batti, Randeep Hooda’s Inspector Avinash, and more.
