What About Paramount Plus?
Viacom 18 had tied up with Paramount Global a few years ago. Now that Viacom 18’s Voot Select will merge with Jio Cinema, Paramount Plus content will be a part of the new streaming platform, JioVoot.
Interestingly, the powers at be at Viacom and Jio Studios plan to offer Paramount Plus on the new JioVoot platform as a paid add-on platform, much like how Prime Video offers various streaming platforms as a paid entity as part of its Prime Video Channels set-up. The paid add-on will offer Paramount Plus, Paramount Studios and Showtime under one paid subscription plan.
The subscription cost for Paramount Plus hasn’t been locked yet. The new add-on version of Paramount Plus will be available right from the launch of JioVoot. Sylvester Stallone’s Tulsa King will likely be available at the launch of the Paramount Plus – Paramount Studios – Showtime paid add-on.
Interestingly, Showtime currently has a content deal with Disney Plus Hotstar, as a result of which, popular Showtime titles premiere on Disney Plus Hotstar in India. The deal will end soon, and Showtime will shift to the JioVoot Paramount Plus – Paramount Global paid add-on.
Of course, it will be another blow for Disney Plus Hotstar, which is reeling under the exit of three biggies – the IPL, Formula One Racing and HBO from its platform.
