In case you guys missed it (even if you did, it’s fine – we are in the middle of the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic), ‘MasterChef Australia’ is back and it has been full steam ahead for the brilliant cooking competition game show. The show’s 13th season has been up and running for a few weeks now and there have already been 14 episodes out so far. The series has gone back to the original version of bringing on home cooks for the competition again, so the series lost a little bit of the “oomph” factor from the previous season, but the cooking visuals, techniques and the “pizzazz” has been awesome so far.
Last year has been one of the worst years of our lives (in many cases, probably the worst year yet), no two ways about it. No human interaction (or social interactions of any kind, if you are stuck in a place, all alone), no idea about how long the lockdown would last with the multiple extensions done by the government and of course, home cooking. If there was one positive thing that the pandemic did for us, it forced us to cook our own meals (most of us anyway). And during the global pandemic, many of us turned to this epic competitive cooking series to take our minds of the pandemic for a bit – and for many, it worked.
Because we wanted to cook what was shown to us by the contestants themselves, the show helped keep many of us active. We also got a sneak-peek at how the global pandemic affected the rest of the world (for the first time) and since the Covid-19 pandemic happened after the show had already taken off for a few weeks, we were able to see genuine changes in how people were interacting with each other in the current climate. All of this helped many people to get through the coronavirus pandemic, especially in India, which is supposed to be one of the biggest viewer bases for this cooking show.
The series has already eliminated 5 home cooks so far, leaving us with 19 – so the competition is heating up. In the next episode, we are expecting some MasterChef alumni to turn up, so it is going to be even more exciting to watch.
14 episodes of the 13th season of ‘MasterChef Australia’ are currently streaming on Disney+ Hotstar. The 15th episode will air on 9th May 2021 (Sunday). The 12th season of the competitive cooking show is also streaming on the same.
