Matt Damon’s Crime-Drama ‘Stillwater’ Release Postponed to July 2021

As per the latest announcement by Focus Features (a Comcast company), its upcoming crime-drama-thriller film featuring ‘The Bourne Identity’ star Matt Damon will now get its release on 30th July 2021.
The film revolves around Matt Damon’s oil rigger character Bill, who travels to France to visit his daughter (played by Abigail Breslin of Zombieland’s fame), who is currently in prison for a crime, he believes she did not commit. His attempt to acquit his innocent daughter while struggling with a difficult French way of living forms the rest of the story.

Stillwater is being helmed by Academy Award winner Tom McCarthy, whose 2015 biographical crime film ‘Spotlight’ (starring Mark Ruffalo and Michael Keaton) had received considerable commercial and critical acclaim worldwide.
Whereas, the film is Matt Damon’s (also an Academy Award winner) subsequent lead performance after the immensely successful James Mangold’s sports-drama ‘Ford vs Ferrari’ (released in 2019), in which he immaculately portrayed the role of the American car designer Carrol Shelby. The film also co-starred Christian Bale.
It is, however, simply baffling as to why the gifted actor has been making merely short appearances and apparently meaningless cameos in his recent films like Marvel’s Deadpool 2, Steven Soderberg’s Unsane and Chris Hemsworth’s Thor: Ragnarok.

On the brighter side though, his next venture ‘The Last Duel’ set in the 14th Century, in which he is playing the lead role, is being directed by legendary filmmaker Sir Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator). Matt Damon has himself co-written the screenplay along with his long-time friend and colleague Ben Affleck.
Another film in which Damon will be seen alongside Brendan Fraser (of Mummy’s fame) is Steve Soderberg’s thriller ‘No Sudden Move’. Previously, Matt Damon had collaborated with Soderberg in well-received films like the ‘Ocean’s 11’ series, ‘The Informant’ and ‘Contagion’.

We sincerely hope that, henceforth, Matt Damon’s fans will be able to see him in more substantial roles like these two films, which justify his talent rather than in undervalued and discredited cameos.
Currently, both the films ‘Stillwater’ and ‘No Sudden Move’ are in post-production stages.
