Matt Reeves To Produce DCU’s Batman Arkham Series, James Gunn Confirms

DC Studios co-head James Gunn has confirmed that Matt Reeves will produce the ‘Arkham’ series for the DCU, apart from his ongoing efforts to expand The Batman universe. He is also working on The Batman Part II and the Penguin series.

Gunn confirmed this via his Instagram account while replying to a fan. “Yes. We love Matt as a director and producer, so he’ll be producing stories both within his The Batman universe and within the DCU.”

Many believed that the Arkham series was part of Elseworlds. However, the GOTG helmer clarified that the Arkham series was always a part of the DCU instead of being a part of Elseworlds. This alternate DC universe treasures the likes of Todd Phillips’ Joker: Folie a Deux and Matt Reeves’ The Batman.

Arkham is a notorious asylum in the Batman universe which houses some of the most dangerous Batman villains.

The Arkham series’ development commenced in 2022, before The Batman’s theatrical release. The project was first announced back in July 2020. Back then, it was supposed to take inspiration from Greg Rucka and Ed Brubaker’s 2002 Gotham Central comic book series. However, Matt Reeves has confirmed that the series will focus more on Arkham, reducing its concentration on the Gotham City Police Department (GCPD). It will be intriguing to see whose idea it was to connect the series with the DCU.

Antonio Campos, best known for his work on HBO’s The Staircase, will be the Batman Arkham series developer. He replaced Terrence Winter, who left the show due to creative differences. Stay tuned for more updates.
