Holy Shit! It seems like James Gunn and Peter Safran want only big names for their upcoming DCU series, Lanterns. The duo is reportedly interested in casting either Matthew McConaughey (True Detective) or Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan Kenobi) for the role of Hal Jordan/Green Lantern. Although, their chances of getting the role would increase if Josh Brolin turns down the offer.
According to reliable industry insider Jeff Sneider, Josh Brolin has been offered the role of Hal Jordan in the upcoming HBO series Lanterns. If Brolin declines, Gunn and Safran are reportedly considering Matthew McConaughey or Ewan McGregor for the part. This is fantastic news for DC fans who have eagerly waited for a live-action Green Lantern project for so long.
All three actors are experienced and versatile performers who have excelled in different types of roles. If McConaughey or McGregor are indeed being considered, it further supports James Gunn’s previous statement about the significance of Green Lantern content in the DCU. This is what Gunn replied to a Twitter (X) user when the latter asked about the project’s significance back in 2022:
Important.

In addition to this, Sneider has reported that Challengers helmer Luca Guadagnino is being eyed for an upcoming DCU project, titled ‘Sgt. Rock’, with Justin Kuritzkes penning the script. The movie’s events are expected to take place during World War II. It will focus on the popular comic book character, Sgt. Franklin Rock.
Guadagnino is best known for his work on movies such as Call Me by Your Name, Suspiria, Bones and All, Challengers, and Queer (marking his first-time collaboration with James Bond actor Daniel Craig). Stay tuned for more updates.
