Marvel’s First Family has finally entered the grand and exciting world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe! After a long, long wait, we finally have a trailer for Matt Shakman’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps, starring Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, aka Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, aka Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, aka Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, aka The Thing.
The first teaser introduces us to the movie’s retro-futuristic 1960s vibe. First Steps takes a different approach to the Fantastic Four’s origin story compared to the 20th Century Fox films. Instead of showing how they gain their powers, this movie begins with the team already super-powered and well-established in their universe.
We also see the group donning their classic comic-inspired blue and white costumes. Plus, we get a sneak peek at the world-eater Galactus, voiced by Ralph Ineson.
The clip also features John Malkovich as a troubled, mysterious character. According to rumours, he may be playing Ivan Kragoff, aka Red Ghost—a genius supervillain who debuted alongside his Super-Apes in Fantastic Four #13 (1963).
Julia Garner is also part of First Steps, playing the Shalla-Bal version of Silver Surfer. However, she does not appear in the trailer. We may see her in upcoming promotional clips for the movie.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps will be the MCU’s third major feature release this year, following Captain America: Brave New World (February 14) and Thunderbolts* (May 2).
Many fans are wondering whether Robert Downey Jr. will appear as Victor Von Doom, aka Doctor Doom, in First Steps. Given that Marvel’s First Family seems well-established in the movie, we may also get a properly developed version of Doctor Doom.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps will arrive in theaters worldwide on July 25! Mark your calendars! Here’s the new teaser!
