Steven Yeun has exited MCU’s Thunderbolts, according to one of the latest reports from The Hollywood Reporter. He was set to play one of the most powerful superheroes in the Marvel universe, Sentry, in the Jake Schreier directional. Marvel Studios and Yeun are yet to comment on this scenario.
Filming for Thunderbolts is expected to commence in March or April this year, which is why the removal of Steven Yeun complicates things for Marvel Studios. This case also raises the question of whether Sentry will appear in the movie. Some time ago, Marvel fired Jonathan Majors from his role as Kang the Conqueror.
As of now, we do not know the specific reasons behind Steven Yeun leaving MCU’s Thunderbolts. But we do know about the actors who could replace him in the film. Here are some popular fan choices for Sentry.
Henry Cavill
The DCEU’s Man of Steel, Henry Cavill, is one of the top fan-favourite choices for the role of Sentry. Although, some believe that Sentry is too complex for an actor like Cavill. Apart from Sentry, The Witcher fame has also been considered for the role of Captain Britain, which feels like a bit more obvious choice. The character was developed in 1976 as a British counterpart of Captain America from the United States of America.
Alan Ritchson
Some fans have also pitched the idea of Alan Ritchson playing Sentry in Thunderbolts. Given the actor’s shape and persona, he could be a worthy contender for Sentry’s on-screen portrayal. Starring in Thunderbolts will not be Ritchson’s first venture into superhero projects, as he is known to play superhero Hawk in DC’s Titans series. He gained international prominence after starring in Prime Video’s Reacher series.
Alexander Skarsgård
Before Steven Yeun was finalised for Sentry, Alexander Skarsgård was one of the top choices for Marvel. He is also one of the top fan-favourite choices for the powerful but complicated superhero. The Swedish actor is perfect for a character like Sentry, as proven by his outstanding and conflicted performances in films like The Kill Team (2019), The Northman (2022), and Infinity Pool (2023).
Ryan Gosling
In November 2022, the rumours about Ryan Gosling being considered for the role of Sentry flooded the internet. However, the actor has expressed interest in playing Ghost Rider in the MCU. We don’t know if he will consider making his Marvel debut with Sentry. Given his current fan-following, getting Gosling will be beneficial for both Thunderbolts and Marvel Studios. Stay tuned for more updates.
