Mean Girls Starts BO Domination

It was destined that the musical would make the box office dance to its tone as the weekend stats are coming up. Sometimes, you can mark predictions as spoilers. The original one was one of the biggest hits in terms of musicals, and the second attempt of the Plastic girls doesn’t look that bad either.

As of Sunday, the film grossed $28 million, and counting the Monday holiday in, it can easily reach the $28 million mark in no time. The original one grossed the $24.4 million mark, but counting inflation, the original one is still the big daddy.

Even in terms of the international market, Mean Girls got a generous response, grossing $6.5 million from 16 overseas countries—a great stat indeed. The film was also dominated by females, as 76% of the watchers belonged to the better sex.

Besides the Queen Bee, The Beekeeper managed to grab the second place with a whopping $16.8 million weekend, despite a higher prediction. It also received a good international response, earning $20.4 million in 49 territories, even beating Mean Girls.

Wonka has no intention of being defeated, as Timothée Chalamet’s film is again sitting at the third place with $11 million in the four-day weekend. This week, Wonka also became the highest-grossing Willy Wonka film of all time, as Chalamet manages to have his first $500 million film.

Sony’s “Anyone But You” also breaks the stereotype of an R-rated comedy as it continues its top 10 journey, occupying the fourth spot and grossing $8.5 million. Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell manage to surpass box office expectations as the film almost grossed $80 million.

Universal also continues to crack the animation world, as “Migration” isn’t going anywhere from the box office top 10, earning $6.1 million during the weekend and managing to collect $172 million globally.

“Aquaman” also manages to clinch the sixth spot with $5.3 million and is followed by “Night Swim” ($4.7 million) and “Boys In The Boat” ($3.7 million). Although “Aquaman” was projected to fall flat at the box office, it managed to overturn expectations with a long run.

“Book Of Clearance” is the second fresh face after “Mean Girls” as the former manages to gross $2.6 million. “Iron Claw,” the A24 wrestling drama, is also in the top 10 with a sizzling $2.4 million, nearing the $30 million mark.

And then, the USA is flavored with Indian spices as two Indian films secure the final two places in the USA box office. “Hanu Man,” starring Teja Sajja, grosses $2.4 million, claiming the ninth place. But the fun isn’t over there, as Mahesh Babu pulls up a good box office performance. “Guntur Kaaram” manages to gross $2.3 million during the weekend.
