After spending more than 25 years in the industry, where Sanjay Kapoor is making an OTT comeback with The Last Hour, the upcoming thriller web series by Amazon Prime Videos, Shahana Goswami is enjoying her best time in the world of OTT after the success of Bombay Begum’s in Netflix. As Kapoor and Goswami both, about to decode the puzzles of mysterious death as cops from tomorrow, 14th May, we thought that we could decode the careers of these two a bit who are quite opposite in their track records.
But before everything else, folks who are unfamiliar with The Last Hour series, it’s a supernatural crime thriller which revolves around cop Lipika Bora played by Shahana Goswami and a newly transferred cop, Arup Singh portrayed by Sanjay Kapoor, who try to uncover the mysterious deaths with the help of a shaman played by Karma Takapa in the backdrop of the Himalayas. The series will be the first ever supernatural web series in Amazon Prime.
Now, coming to Sanjay Kapoor, it’s been 26 years since 1995, when he began to melt the hearts of the audiences in the superhit film Raja. But after a few successes here and there, his career graph often stumbled with bad script choices and constant comparison with his older sibling Anil Kapoor, who was already a screen-legend by the time Sanjay entered the industry. But as a human being, Sanjay Kapoor is never out of spirit despite having a rough career. Whatever opportunities were given to him, he never backed out from them, be it acting in regional movies or be it featuring in TV serials or working in web series. Talking about web series, Sanjay said in an interview that in the past 25 years, he has never auditioned for any role for The Last Hour, It was a challenge that he eagerly took on, and he was glad that he proved himself in the screen test. “I am playing a cop for the first time, but he is not the larger-than-life Bollywood cop. He has anxieties and worries, like any of us,” added the actor.
He was never out of tales concerning shooting for The Last Hour in Sikkim. Being a foodie, he explained in an interview that missed non-vegetarian breakfast sometimes in Sikkim but the delicious local vegetarian cuisines never failed to amaze him. He further said, “At the end of the day when we were done with the shoot, the entire cast and crew would always eat lunch and dinner together. Food is a very important part of my life and I take it very seriously. Every day, I would order food for the whole team.” It looks like Sanjay enjoyed it to the fullest while shooting for The Last Hour.
Now about Shahana Goswami, an actress who is bold, beautiful, smart and extremely talented for this new-age film industry. Debuted almost 15 years back, she caught immediate attention as an outspoken and smart newcomer in Farhan Akhtar’s Rock On. After that, she has worked with a lot of great talents in the industry by exploring almost all the genre of film and TV/Web industry with Shahrukh Khan’s Ra.ONE, Kareena Kapoor’s Heroine, Nasiruddin Shah’s Firaaq, Salman Rushdie’s critically acclaimed Midnight’s Children , very recently BBC’s The Suitable Boy and Netflix’s Bombay Begums and so on.
Now, to explore a new side of herself just like Sanjay Kapoor, she will be portraying a cop for the first time in The Last Hour. “I have never played the role of a cop in my entire career. So when I was offered the part, that was a big draw for me as well. I hadn’t ever held a gun and got to hold a real gun! This show gave me the opportunity to tick that off the list”, she said in an interview. She also explained that she was in awe while reading the script and it felt like she was reading a thriller book which she couldn’t put down. She further added, “I really liked how something as complex as shamanic traditions was weaved in, in a beautiful and subtle way”.
The Last Hour cast includes Karma Takapa, Raima Sen, Shaylee Krishen and Robin Tamang, apart from Sanjay Kapoor and Shahana Goswami. Amit Kumar and Anupama Minz have co-created and co-written the story.
