Big news! Francis Ford Coppola’s dream movie ‘Megalopolis’ is finally having a theatrical release in the USA and Canada. The movie was earlier tagged as ‘too experimental’ and ‘not commercial enough’ for the distributors. France went on to be the saviour and became the first country to distribute the movie, while countries like Germany, Italy and Australia followed. But there were no distributors for the epic movie in the home country itself.
Fans have been waiting for some news about the release of the movie for a long time. There were no updates even after the Cannes premiere, where the movie had divided reactions. But now fans are happy that the movie is finally coming out. Lionsgate plans to release it on the 27th of September.
‘Megalopolis’ is described as a Roman tale based in modern America. It tells the story of a crazy genius played by Adam Driver, who wants to make the city into a Utopia. But the mayor, played by Giancarlo Espocito, is a staunch believer in differing social classes, and he does not approve of his plans. The mayor’s daughter falls in love with the scientist and is torn between loyalties. The movie has been explained as one iconic cross between Blade Runner and Julius Caesar.
Lionsgate Motion Pictures chairman Adam Fogelson has said, “Francis is a legend. For many of us, his gifts to cinema were one of the inspirations to devote our own careers to film. It is a true privilege to work with him, and to bring this incredible, audacious, and utterly unique movie to theatrical audiences. At Lionsgate, we strive to be a home for bold and daring artists, and ‘Megalopolis’ proves there is no one more bold or daring than the maestro, Francis Ford Coppola.”
