Done with the reading sessions the cast and crew of Meghna Gulzar’s next directorial venture ‘Sam Bahadur’ have now moved on to the more exciting filming part.
Starring Vicky Kaushal and ‘Dangal’ duo Sanya Malhotra and Fatima Sana Shaikh in the lead, Ronnie Screwvala’s ‘Sam Bahadur’ has now begun shooting with the cast getting into their characters and dress up.
The announcement for the shoot commencement was made today with a video shared by the makers wherein we get to see some behind the scene preparations such as dress fittings, looks, music production, reading sessions, set making and more. The video also has a countdown going on to the day the shoot begins. We also get a glimpse of veteran lyricist and Meghna Gulzar’s father Gulzar giving blessing for the film.
The video also teases with the looks of various cast members specially Vicky Kaushal dressed up as an army man sporting that iconic thick moustache of Sam Manekshaw whose role he is set to play in ‘Sam Bahadur’.
Vicky Kaushal has done phenomenal job in portraying our national heroes in his past films like ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’ and ‘Sardar Udham’ and now he is on to play the role of another such hero from the Indian army. ‘Sam Bahadur’ is inspired from the life of Sam Manekshaw who was the Chief of the Army Staff of the Indian army during the Indo-Pakistan war of 1971.
Beginning his career with service in the British Indian Army during the Second World War, Manekshaw had a long and reputed military career spanning four decades during which he was part of five major wars. He was also the first Indian army officer to be promoted to the rank of Field Marshal.
‘Sam Bahadur’ is directed by Meghna Gulzar (‘Talvar’, ‘Raazi’, ‘Chhapaak’) who has co-written the film with Bhavani Iyer and Shantanu Srivastava. The film stars Vicky Kaushal in the titular role along with Sanya Malhotra, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Neeraj Kabi among others.
Ronnie Screwvala has produced ‘Sam Bahadur’ under his RSVP Movies banner with the film slated for a theatrical release later. Sharing the shoot commencement announcement video on social media, Meghna Gulzar wrote,
