Netflix dropped the trailer for their upcoming French-American science fiction survival thriller ‘Oxygen‘. The film is expected to premiere on the streaming platform by the second week of next month. The trailer is quite cryptic, but just like the teaser before it, ‘Oxygen’ will primarily feature the French actor, Melanie Laurent. Check out the heart racing trailer at the end of this article.
Melanie Laurent is known for her various works in both French and Hollywood features such as ‘Now You See Me’, ‘Don’t Worry I Am Fine’ and ‘Enemy’ among many others. But no work has taken her to the prominence she received for her unforgettable role as Shosanna Dreyfus in Quentin Tarantino’s masterpiece ‘Inglorious Basterds’. ‘Oxygen’ will be the first film where she will be expected to carry the film on her own, as she will be taking up most of the screen time.
The trailer of ‘Oxygen’ begins with Melanie’s character waking up in a cryo-chamber after she utters the word “Liz” (her name) in her dreams. The woman doesn’t remember who she is, or how she got there. Lying on her back, she is covered in wires which seems to be monitoring her physical as well as her mental condition while wearing a special medical body-suit. As soon as she wakes up, the AI in the chamber, MILO AKA Medical Interface Liaison Operator, (voiced by Mathieu Amalric) is ready to answer her questions.
The AI answers most of her questions, but when she asks MILO to let her out of the chamber, the AI doesn’t comply with wishes, stating that is not a request he can comply with at the time. But Liz has other problems to worry about. She is running out of oxygen and the cryo-chamber has only about 30 percent O2 left in the reserve chamber, which amounts to about 90 minutes to survive. Liz has to try and remember who she is and what she does for a living so she can find out a way out of the chamber before she runs out of breathable air.
Melanie Laurent’s ‘Oxygen’ will premiere on Netflix on May 12th 2021.
