The ‘never seen together’ duo finally made it to a cinematic collaboration, and their performance on the screen received praises from critics and audiences alike. The recently released film, ‘Merry Christmas’, has garnered varied responses from the audience, yet critics express admiration for Sriram Raghavan’s directorial skill.
The movie, marking the first-time pairing of Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi, transitions from theaters to the digital screens as it prepares for an OTT debut. Released on 12 January 2024 in theaters, ‘Merry Christmas’ revolves around love and crime, literally, occuring on Christmas Eve, all at once.
The murder mystery involves two souls, Maria and Albert, who, amidst the festive backdrop, find themselves in love. Sriram Raghavan, renowned for classics like “Andhadhun” and “Badlapur,” directed this film.
The cast also includes Sanjay Kapoor, Radhika Apte, Tinu Anand, and Vinay Pathkar, bringing the story alive. Produced by Ramesh Taurani, Jaya Taurani, Sanjay Routray, and Kewal Garg under Tips Films and Matchbox Pictures, the film draws inspiration from Frédéric Dard’s French novel “Le Monte-charge” (Bird in a Cage).
‘Merry Christmas’ has also seen another ‘first time’ journey. The musical score and songs are composed by legendary music director Pritam, making his Tamil debut. Also, the film was simultaneously shot in both Hindi and Tamil, having principal shootings in Mumbai and Uttar Pradesh.
