The world of superheroes and supervillains shown in the widely acclaimed series ‘The Boys’ will soon cross international borders. Because as per the latest update, a Spanish language spin-off series set in Mexico is ostensibly in the works at Amazon Prime Video.
As per reports, Mexican filmmaker Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, who has recently lent his writing skills for the DC superhero movie ‘Blue Beetle’, will be the script writer for ‘The Boys’ Mexico-centric spin-off. As of now, the plot details of the show are being kept under wraps. But it will be shot in Mexico and casting should begin soon.
The parent series ‘The Boys’ premiered on Amazon Prime Video in July 2019 and it became an instant hit among genre fans because of its uniquely crafted ‘superheroes gone bad’ central idea. The series was perceived as a breath of fresh air and as an antidote to Marvel and DC superhero content. The series was based on the comic book of the same name.
Thereafter, two more seasons of ‘The Boys’ were released on Prime Video in September 2020 and June 2022. A fourth season is slated to be released sometime in 2024. Beside the mothership series ‘The Boys’, a spin-off show called ‘Gen V’ premiered a couple of months back and was soon renewed for a second season.
For the unversed, the basic plot of ‘The Boys’ revolves around a group of disgruntled vigilantes led by Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) who are hellbent on destroying morally compromised superheroes, especially the most powerful and corrupt one Homelander, with whom Butcher has a history. On the other hand, ‘Gen V’ follows a bunch of student supes who uncover a dark and terrible secret about their superhero-only college.
