Michael Keaton Joins Batgirl: A New Batman Era for DCEU Fans?

Micheal Keaton is ready to don the cape of the world’s greatest detective once again for DCEU’s upcoming instalment, Batgirl. He has already completed his shoot for Ezra Miller’s The Flash, set to arrive in 2022. Various rumours on the internet have informed that the movie takes its inspiration from the Flashpoint comic book series. We all know how Barry goes back in time to save his mother’s life. But that comes with a heavy price. Additionally, we have Ben Affleck in the cast.

The film’s plot has been kept secret by the makers so far. But we know Keaton is playing Bruce Wayne, hailing from an alternate universe. He donned the iconic Batsuit in Tim Burton’s Batman (1989) and Batman Returns (1992). It will be interesting to see how his appearance will affect The Flash’s plot and eventually, the future of DCEU.

There is no denying that fans are nostalgic about Keaton’s addition to DCEU. A lot of us were not even born before 1989 to watch the majority of Batman fans and media channels lambasting WB’s decision to cast the actor in the iconic role. Plus, Jack Nicholson’s inclusion as The Joker raised the stakes for the studio like never before. Despite all the hate and slander, the veteran proved why he was born to wear that cape. His flawless portrayal of The Caped Crusader won people’s hearts.

Now, here we are 29 years later, excited for Keaton’s arrival in The Flash as well as Batgirl. The DC diehards are curious to witness the actor’s character in these forthcoming superhero entries. Our bet is on the old-but-battered version of Bruce Wayne, exhausted from his crime-fighting duties after all these years in Gotham. We don’t have to tell you how much Batman has sacrificed to keep the most notorious city clean from all kinds of threats.

Marvel Cinematic Universe is already working on many movies and tv series, exploring the depths of the Multiverse. And DCEU will do the same with The Flash. After all, you cannot ignore the consequences you face after messing with the proper flow of time. But there’s no denying that Keaton’s re-emergence as Batman will be fantastic to see.

Batgirl is set for a theatrical release next year. WB has not revealed the exact date yet. But we will inform you about it. We got you covered. Leslie Grace will lead the project alongside J. K. Simmons. The latter will play the famous GCPD Detective James Gordon in the film. Surprisingly, we have Brendan Fraser in the movie’s cast too. He was already a part of DC’s Doom Patrol series as Robotman. Now, he is ready to become Garfield Lynns aka Firefly. Don’t forget that Firefly will make its live-action feature film debut in the upcoming DC movie.
