Michael Mann’s Cult Classic ‘Heat’ Gets a Sequel and It’s Not a Drill!

One of the most celebrated Crime epics from Hollywood and World cinema in general, Michael Mann’s ‘Heat’ set benchmarks for crime drama story-telling for nearly three decades now. The three-hour cat-and-mouse behemoth boasted of astonishing performances from everyone’s favourite veteran acting icons Al Pacino as cop Vincent Hanna and Robert De Niro as the criminal Neil McCauley. Michael Mann is all set to take the legacy forward with Heat 2 and the director made it official today.

Finally, Mann is back with a direct follow-up titled ‘Heat 2’ and it’s social media official. According to Mann’s earlier interviews, the sequel will be initially published as a novel largely focusing on Hanna and Chris Shiherlis character. Mann had also hinted earlier that he’s also planning to make it as a film. Looks like things have turned quite well for him and Heat 2 – the film is definitely locked.

However, Heat 2 is essentially a prequel film so that rules out De Niro and Kilmer’s presence in the sequel. “I love those guys, but they’d have to be six years younger than they were in Heat” said Mann in an interview with Empire. Heat follows Lieutenant Hanna, a detective, who decides to catch a highly intelligent seasonal criminal who has vowed to pull off one last robbery before his retirement. Let us wait and see how Heat 2 the novel will be received and who all will be a part of the cast now. Stay tuned for more updates.
