Actress Shriya Pilgaonkar, who had essayed the role of Ali Fazal’s love interest in the cult crime show ‘Mirzapur’, recently took to Twitter to announce that their short film ‘Sita’ is playing at ‘Cannes Court Metrage’ short film corner at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival (Festival de Cannes) 2021. She further mentioned that the film is one of the only six shorts from India.
A couple of months back, Shriya Pilgaonkar had apprised through her social media platform that the 19 minutes short film ‘Sita’ directed by Abhinav Singh had been nominated for Filmfare Short Film Awards 2021 and also mentioned the Filmfare link to watch the film.
The short film ‘Sita’, which has been listed under the ‘Social Message’ category in the Filmfare website, follows the story of a young boy named Badri, who finds the body of an upper-caste new-born baby girl abandoned on the street. The boy sets out to respectfully cremate her but finds the task difficult as he is made aware of the prevalent rules and traditions regarding the same. The film also features veteran performer Liliput and Shreya Pilgaonkar alongside Om Kanojia, Devesh Ranjan, and Trishaan.
Another short film contender in the ‘Social Message’ category for Filmfare Awards was Kajol’s short film ‘Devi’. The film with a runtime of 13 minutes, revolved around the stories of nine oppressed women from different walks of life living in a small room. The film also featured Shruti Haasan and Neha Dhupia, amongst others. Besides ‘Sita’ and ‘Devi’, other films listed in the ‘Social Message’ category were ‘Arjun’, Backyard Wildlife Sanctuary’, ‘Kavla Ud’, and ‘Khisa’.
In addition to her short film ‘Sita’ and superhit television show ‘Mirzapur’, talented actress Shriya Pilgaonkar was earlier seen in Shah Rukh Khan’s film ‘Fan’ besides featuring in television shows including ‘The Gone Game’ and ‘Crackdown’.
