MobLand executive producer Jez Butterworth strongly believes that the Tom Hardy-led crime drama will get a Season 2, and that the show has a great and even larger future. Season 1 ended with multiple cliffhangers. One of them was Harry’s (Hardy) injury, as his fate is now unknown. By the time we reach the finale, the show teases Maeve’s (Helen Mirren) secret upcoming plans. Meanwhile, Conrad (Pierce Brosnan) earns respect from prison inmates as he looks to get out of his cell.
Given how the debut season ended, it looks like Paramount+ should face no difficulty in renewing the series for a second season. The series has all the makings of a long-running and successful TV show. Let’s see what happens.
In a recent interview with the New York Post, Butterworth disclosed that the cast and crew of MobLand are hopeful that Season 2 is good to go.
“I’d like this to run for as long as it fascinates and delights and stimulates an audience. If it’s doing that, then long may it continue.”
Well, there’s no denying that a lot also depends on the show’s viewership, which looks pretty impressive so far.
MobLand has achieved impressive viewership figures since its release. Paramount+ revealed that within its first week, the show garnered 8.8 million global viewers, marking a significant 298% increase from its premiere day. This made MobLand the most-watched global series premiere week in the streaming platform’s history.
This means that as long as the show continues to deliver strong viewership numbers, Paramount+ should have no problem greenlighting Season 2—and possibly more.
That said, it’s currently unclear which characters from MobLand Season 1 will return, as many of their fates were left ambiguous. This is especially true for Tom Hardy’s character, Harry, who sustained a chest stab wound that could prove fatal without immediate medical attention.
Season 2 might explore Harry’s recovery and continued involvement in crime, or it could focus on the repercussions of his potential death. Despite the unresolved plot points, Butterworth appears confident that the series will continue. Stay tuned for more updates.
