Money Heist: Korea Joint Economic Area Already a Hit on Netflix India?

By Binged Bureau - Jun 27, 2022 @ 09:06 am

The fan following Spanish heist crime drama ‘Money Heist’ has gained in India needs no introduction. The popularity of the 5 season show worldwide did wonders to Netflix that they green-lit a korean adaptation to the series soon after the finale season. The Korean remake titled ‘Money Heist: Korea- Joint Economic Area‘ dropped it’s first 6 episodes on June 24th and in hardly no time the show has shooted itself to Netflix India Top 10.

This is a phenomenal feat in itself for the show because not very often are remakes received as well as the originals. Money Heist Korea gets all this love primarily because of the difference in which the Korean makers have adapted the Spanish original. The kdrama is not a scene to scene remake and focuses a bit more on the political backdrop of Korean peninsula. The show is steadily finding an audience also because Korean creators definitely bring in a novelty to their projects no matter if it’s even a remake. Come on! We’ve seen the rage Squid Game,All of Us are Dead, Crash Landing on You and Business Proposal were. And secondly because of its star-cast. Yoo Ji-tae, Park Hae-soo and Jeon Jong-seo are popular stars and a packed star-cast definitely gave the show a much required initial boost. Most of the faces are familiar for the kdrama audience and Squid Game fans have their beloved Park Hae-soo in the show. However it is yet to be seen how long the Korean remake will retain its initial momentum as the Spanish original also eventually ran out of steam by the time its finale season dropped.

Money Heist Korea is Set in the same fictional universe of the Spanish original. The series is both a remake and a continuation of the Spanish TV drama and follows the storyline and characters of the original Spanish version. “The Professor” played by Yoo Ji-tae , a strategist and a criminal mastermind, plans to pull off a heist in the unified Korean Peninsula inspired by the operations in Spain. The heist operation involves strategists with different characteristics and abilities facing extreme situations. As the thieves overtake a unified Korea, hostages are trapped inside. With the police trying to stop them and their shadowy mastermind.

The Korean adaptation is directed by Kim Hong-sun and written by Ryu Yong-jae. The show stars Yoo Ji-tae, Park Hae-soo, Jeon Jong-seo, Lee Hyun-woo, Lee Won-jong and Park Myung-hoon. The real challenge of Money Heist Korea is nevertheless to penetrate into an audience that loved the Spanish original besides kdrama fanatics. The remaining 6 episodes of the show will be dropped soon but Netflix hasn’t divulged any details yet.
