Money Heist’s Alex Pina Expands Netflix Deal With Pandemic Series

Back in 2018 Netflix signed an exclusive overall deal with boundary-breaking, award-winning producer and writer Alex Pina, the creator of international hit series ‘Money Heist’. Netflix has now extended this deal to include a new pandemic based series.

This latest Netflix series, that is yet to be named, revolves around a luxury underground bunker for the elites of the country where they take shelter and stay away and safe from the disasters of the pandemic.

According to Alex Pina the series is inspired from an article published in a Spanish newspaper back in 2019 about wealthy Spanish citizens buying bunkers to survive the pandemic.

Describing these bunkers, Pina in an interview to a renowned publication, said, “Some of the new shelters that were being built were luxury homes in the subsoil. Up to 15 floors down, with exclusive services, such as cinema, pool, spa, gym and common gardens, with water and food to survive more than five years. An underground community for 75 people. And then we thought about what life would be like there. Social, family and romantic relationships, in an underground shelter to which they had hastily and exclusively fled.”

Alex Pina through his Vancouver Media and Netflix have together collaborated on projects like the international sensation ‘Money Heist’, ‘Sky Rojo’ and ‘White Lines’. Pina is also making ‘Berlin’, a ‘Money Heist’ spin-off for Netflix that tells the origin story of the character Berlin and will launch in 2023.
