Monkey Man has already become a thing of the past. The movie was highly sensational in March and April this year due to the insane action sequences and Desi storyline. Jordan Peele was the man behind expenses and Dev Patel helmed the entire film. Made on a modest budget of only $10 Million, the film earned triple its cost and came out to be highly successful if we keep in mind its budget.
Regardless, you must be aware that Monkey Man has not been released in India. It was not released in the theatres or even on any streaming platform. Given the political and religious tones of the film, you may very well have assumed that the film is banned.
Let us tell you, it is not. Monkey Man is not officially banned in India.
CBFC or let’s say the system played really smart over here. They downright ignored the request to screen the film. Strangely enough, even RTI does not help with any information.
This is quite a strange case as banning the film before elections would have made it quite a steamy headline for the American Media. This would have harmed the image of the ruling party and thus the solution was to simply ignore Monkey Man.
But, the people don’t care. Those who wanted to watch the movie have watched it already.
