We do realize that Netflix behaved kinda like a “spring chicken” for dropping the movie. But, they were not completely cowardly. India is indeed a very politically sensitive region and people don’t take any time to feel offended.

As of now, Monkey Man is not even released in India. The movie was scheduled for April 19 release but CBFC has not greenlit the movie as of now. Naturally, no film can be run on the big screens without the certificate of CBFC.

Regardless, the movie has been released in the USA. The details are out and a section of Indians are feeling offended.

Why?

The reason behind this is the character played by Sobhita Dhulipala. She is essaying the role of a sex worker and she is named Sita. No need to say, but Sita is a goddess and naming a sex worker in her name is offensive in many ways.

Some people in India are calling this problem out and it may affect the certification process of the film. Let’s see what happens, the rage is real though.
