Luc Besson’s 2014 science fiction action movie ‘Lucy’, which featured Scarlett Johansson in the lead role, is ostensibly getting a spin-off series, which is expected to be an extension of the film’s underlying premise. And veteran actor Morgan Freeman, who played an important role in the commercially successful film, is purportedly in talks to reprise his role from the parent movie.
Although the precise storyline is currently being kept under the wraps, the ‘Lucy’ spin-off series might carry forward the parent film’s high-concept plot from where it concluded.
The 2014 film ‘Lucy’ follows the titular American student Lucy (Scarlett Johansson) studying in Taiwan who is captured and forced to become a drug mule. However, the hi-tech drug, surgically implanted inside her body, accidentally leaks and the incident grants Lucy superhuman mental and physical abilities by way of unlocking her mind’s full potential.
In the film, Morgan Freeman essayed the role of Professor Samuel Norman, the leading authority in the field of the human mind. His character helps Lucy and attempts to understand what has happened to her. Despite mixed reviews, ‘Lucy’ grossed over a whopping $460 million at the box office.
‘Lucy’ was helmed by acclaimed French filmmaker Luc Besson, whose directorial filmography includes films such as ‘Leon: The Professional’, ‘The Fifth Element’, ‘The Family’, and most recently ‘Anna’.
