Imagine yourself craving a pizza. So, you decide to order one. But out of nowhere, you see a pineapple on the top of your pizza. And your mood for devouring that pizza flushes down the gutter. You must be wondering how this situation shares a connection with the 94th Oscars. Right? Well, Adam McKay’s Don’t Look Up is the ‘pineapple’ of this year’s Best Picture Oscar category. Yes, some people loved it. But the majority of viewers hailed it as overrated or terrible. If we wrap all these things, we can agree on one common thing. This Netflix film didn’t deserve the Best Picture nomination at the upcoming 94th edition of the Academy Awards. Why? Because it proves that even great acting talents like Leonardo DiCaprio, Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence, and many more are not enough to save the movie’s terrible execution. Check out the movies that should have been nominated at this year’s Oscars instead of Don’t Look Up!
Enjoying this David Lowery’s medieval fantasy project is not everyone’s cup of tea. The movie treasures outstanding performances, beautiful cinematography, flawless direction, and music. The leading man, Dev Patel, delivers one of the strongest performances of his acting career in this one. And it is a far better watch than Don’t Look Up.
Spencer is the outcome of director Pablo Larrain’s delicate, innovative, and careful treatment of its storyline. Plus, he brought the best out of Kristen Stewart. Who knew that the Twilight girl had so much talent before the arrival of this movie? And she rightfully deserves her Best Actress Oscar nomination.
Tick, Tick… Boom!
Lin-Manuel Miranda’s debut directional feature hits all the notes accurately. And special thanks to Andrew Garfield’s heart-touching performance for taking the film to new heights. A perfect tribute to Jonathan Larson! The on-screen Amazing Spider-Man has already bagged 2022’s Best Actor Golden Globe (Musical or Comedy). And now he is waiting to get his hands on this year’s Oscar for Best Actor.
C’mon C’mon
The duo of Joaquin Phoenix and Woody Norman effortlessly overpowers the entire cast of Don’t Look Up. Someone had to say it. Both these performers gave their hearts out while portraying their respective characters. In addition to this, Mike Mills’ steady direction and the movie’s black-and-white tone works just fine.
The Tragedy of Macbeth
It is hard to imagine a masterpiece like The Tragedy of Macbeth not getting nominated at this year’s Oscars for Best Picture. And we have a not-so-funny Netflix black comedy with the boring ‘world is ending’ hoopla instead of this Joel Coen’s gem of a movie in that category. Veterans like Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand bestow stellar performances in this one apart from the film’s magnificent visuals.
