Mukhomukhi: Do Not Miss This Awesome Bengali Drama From Jisshu!

Here is a film to watch this weekend with your friends and family. ‘Mukhomukhi’, a drama in Bengali that came out in 2019, is streaming on Zee5. It is directed by the wonderful director Kamaleshwar Mukherjee and is adapted from the play ‘Abayab’ by the director himself.

The movie tells the story of an award winning novelist Isha who is now going through a writer’s block. Her husband Agnibha is a critic of her work and he suggests a twist to the ending of the novel Isha had been trying to write for so long. After he makes the suggestion, things go out of hand and unexpected consequences are met with in their lives. With the story of Isha and Agnibha, one more story goes on parallelly together. It is the story of the estranged couple about whom Isha is writing in the novel.

Rajatava Dutta plays the role of Agnibha and Gargi Roychowdhury plays Isha. Jisshu Sengupta and Payel Sarkar play the estranged couple.

The movie is made with a very minimal budget and is executed in the style of a stage drama. The theatrical style adds up to the intensity of the movie. The dialogues are superb. Kamaleshwar Mukherjee is an amazing writer and he has shown what he can do when he is given enough creative freedom. ‘Mukhomukhi’ is an artistic masterpiece. And while it is true that such films might not be liked by all, if you are a fan of experimental and artistic films, you should not miss this. Watch ‘Mukhomukhi’ this weekend on Zee5.
