Must Watch Anthology Movies To Stream Until Putham Pudhu Kaalai Arrives!

There has been a surge in creating Anthology movies from the past two years in India. We are not saying that, in past there hasn’t been enough anthology films but after the surge in OTT market every platform is busy in making their own original anthology movie. Recent examples can be Putham Pudhu Kaalai which arrives on Amazon Prime Video as an Amazon Original. Putham Pudhu Kaalai is an anthology film which will showcase five different stories directed by 5 different directors. All the stories are set in the period of 21 days lockdown which was announced by PM Narendra Modi. Since the film is releasing on October 16th, here’s a list of popular anthology movies which you can stream untill then.


1. Solo ( 2017 )

Solo has been directed by the acclaimed director Bejoy Nambiar. The movie tells the 4 different stories with each story revolving around 4 different elements :- Earth, Fire, Wind and Water. Dulquer Salmaan does an excellent job here playing all the lead characters of different stories. The stories are World Of Shekhar, World of Siva, World of Trilok, and World of Rudra. The movie was shot simultaneously in Tamil and Malayalam.

2. Sillu Karuppatti ( 2019 )

The award winning Tamil film has been directed by Halitha Shameem. Sillu Karuppatti is a romantic anthology film which showcases 4 different stories revolving around different age group of people. The movie was successful critically as well as commercially. The four stories are
Pink Bag, Kakka Kadi, The Turtles and Hey Ammu. The movie has an ensemble cast.

3. Manamantha ( 2016 )

The Mohanlal starrer drama anthology was directed by Chandra Sekhar Yeleti. Manamantha was shot in Telugu and then in Malayalam with slightly different star cast. Although the story revolves around 4 different people who are in different stages of their life. The story revolves around Sairam who is a supermarket assistant manager and eagerly looking for career development. Gayathri, who is a housewife but is stuggling to make ends meet due to low money. Abhiram, a computer engineering student who falls in love with his friend Aira and a small girl Mahitha who’s aim is to join a slum boy into school.

4. Kerela Cafe ( 2009 )

This Malayalam anthology film featured almost all the top names of the industry. Kerela Cafe featured 10 different stories directed by 10 different directors. The movie was claimed as a landmark film in Malayalam cinema. The actors included :- Mammootty, Suresh Gopi, Dileep, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Rahman, Fahadh Faasil, Jayasurya, Suraj Venjarammood, Navya Nair, Nithya Menon in the lead with several others.

5. D Company ( 2013 )

The Malayalam gangster drama anthology film was directed by M. Padmakumar, Diphan, and Vinod Vijayan. The movie featured three different action films in it. D Company starred Fahadh Faasil, Jayasurya Marudu, Asif Ali, Anoop Menon, Ananya Nair, Parvati Nair, Unni Mukundan, Bhama Kurup and others. The three stories in the movie were :-
Oru Bolivian Diary 1995, Gangs of Vadakkumnathan and The Day of Judgement.
