We all know and are aware of the magic that Marvel Cinematic Universe has woven over the years for us. With “Avengers Endgame”, the MCU came to the end of its much loved Phase 3. Normally, the transition to all the three phases wasn’t that prominent if someone wasn’t totally absorbed and consumed by those but the end Phase 3, did make quite an impressionable mark. As with the end of this, we saw the end of the many characters that we grew up with like Iron Man, Captain America, and Black Widow. Though Black Widow will be revived for her personal movies, we would just be visiting her past.
That said, Phase 4 did start with “Spider-Man: Far from Home”, many speculate that it was actually the ending movie for Phase 3. But keeping those aside, we know one thing for sure, Marvel is making its comeback to the small screen. With the release of Disney+, Marvel announced an array of web series that will be focused on some of the rather mainstream characters and into their lives as superheroes. But, this is not the beginning of Marvel in the field of series. Back in 2013, Marvel and Netflix did have a pact to produce and release series that didn’t include the main characters but rather the characters that were more of vigilantes. Sadly though, Marvel never had enough success with its TV shows like DC has had over the years with its series. Hopefully, Marvel sees an end to that and we get some amazing series that are lined up in these coming years, starting off with WandaVision.
Here’s a list of Marvel Series that you could before you head on to WandaVision when it comes out
Marvel’s Agent Carter (Disney+ Hotstar)
One of the very few TV series by Marvel that showed continuity from the movies. This series is based on Captain America’s beloved and one of S.H.I.E.L.D.S co-founders, Peggy Carter. The series shows Carter’s life after the movie, “Captain America: The First Avenger” and her journey as a spy agent. The series lays the foundation of various issues that are familiar in the MCU. In this series, she joins hands with Howard Stark and Edwin Jarvis. This, I believe, is a must watch because Peggy laid the foundation of a very important organisation and how she did that in the era of 40s that too being a single woman is very nicely captured. The series received positive remarks but by the second season, the viewership fell and hence it ended after 2 seasons.
Marvel’s Jessica Jones (Netflix)
The show isn’t related to any of the movies, even though there are slight references of the movie characters here and there, it is completely separate. The show follows some real life issues like trauma, PTSD, rape, kidnappings even though the character was a super hero who had super strength and quick healing abilities. It was second in line amongst the Marvel series to hit Netflix and did a pretty decent job in the reception sector but it wasn’t dragged off a lot and it ended with a proper ending with the Season 3 of the series.
Marvel’s Daredevil (Netflix)
Daredevil follows the journey of blind man, who is a lawyer by the day and a vigilante by the night. Due to his absence of eyesight, all other senses are a lot heightened leading him to take on and fight crime. This series also shows the entry of Frank Castle a.k.a Punisher and how Daredevil comes across him. The show has pretty decent viewership and also ratings. Marvel revealed that viewership had always jumped from Daredevil to Jessica Jones, back and forth making them two most watched Marvel’s Netflix series.
Marvel’s The Punisher (Netflix)
The series brings Frank Castle as The Punisher, who was introduced in the series Daredevil. Traumatized by what happened to his family, he embarks on a journey to finish off crime no matter how deadly the solution is. He gains the name of “The Punisher” and becomes a vigilante for finishing off people related to the criminal underworld. The show did get decent reviews and viewership but was cancelled off by Netflix after two seasons. There has been ongoing talks about it coming back with a third season but most probably it will be released by Disney+ now.
Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Disney+ Hotstar)
No list of Marvel TV series can be complete without mentioning Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., the very core of the entire Marvel Universe. This has been one of the longest running shows with 7 seasons and the show with most references and connections to the movies of the cinematic universe. The series in its course shows some of the most major enemies that were in the movies and also some that weren’t. They have shown to fight off the Inhumans, Hydra, Hive, the Krees, Chronicroms. It is an interesting series if you want to stay connected with the movies too.
