Focus Features has unveiled the official trailer of My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3, starring Nia Vardalos and John Corbett. The upcoming entry will be the third addition to the iconic franchise, which commenced with the 2002 flick My Big Fat Greek Wedding. The film was a gigantic success at the global box office, earning over $368 million against a small budget of $5 million. This huge success spawned the second instalment in 2016. Though, it was deemed inferior to the original entry due to its overreliance on cliched storylines and sitcom gags. Now, the romantic comedy franchise is returning with the third entry, scheduled to hit the theatres on September 8.
The opening moments of the latest trailer show that Toula’s father, Gus Portokalos (played by the late Michael Constantine), is no more. His last wish was to see his entire family again for the last time. This inspires Toula (Nia Vardalos) to arrange a trip for her family to Greece as part of her family reunion plan.
The forthcoming rom-com has been dedicated to Michael Constantine, who played the character of Toula’s father in the first two films.
Besides Vardalos and Corbett, My Big Fat Greek Wedding stars Elena Kampouris, Lainie Kazan, Andrea Martin, Gia Carides, Louis Mandylor, Joey Fatone, and many more.
Apart from leading the third instalment, Vardalos also serves as the film’s writer and director. Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, and Gary Goetzman have produced the project under their banner, Playtone. On the other hand, Focus Features will handle the film’s distribution.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 will release on September 8. Stay tuned for more updates. Check out the trailer below!
