Finally, after months of waiting, ‘My Hero Academia’ dropped its fifth season on March 27th 2021 on the Japanese network NNS (Nippon Television Network System) for the Japanese audiences and on Netflix for the International audience. And the animation team has taken the epicness of the superhero series up by a notch, in the latest season. The animation has gotten even better and the show has become more action packed. True, this episode feels like a filler/ recap episode for many, but it actually follows the manga series written and illustrated by Kōhei Horikoshi pretty much to a T, even in this action-packed “recap” episode.
After the emotional “cliff-hanger-ish” ending of season 4 of ‘My Hero Academia’; mainly Endeavor’s (and Hawks’) brilliant last stand against the High-End Nomu, which dropped on April 4th 2020, we were forced to wait for almost a year for the next season to drop. Of course, the pandemic played a huge role in the delay of production but we are finally glad that the series is back now and up and running, full steam ahead. It has been a very long and very unwelcome 2020, and a dose of ‘My Hero Academia’ has been what many anime fans needed.
Unlike most Netflix shows, the fifth season of ‘My Hero Academia’ will only drop one episode at a time, every Saturday. The brilliant action anime series is set in an alternate universe, where almost 80% of the world’s entire population has special powers called “Quirks”. If trained properly, the “Quirks” can become very powerful and be used for various purposes. Due to the emergence of these powers, many people started abusing their powers and the world eventually descended into chaos. With the help of a hero system and countless selfless heroes, the world’s population eventually discovered peace again. It is during this time in history the main series begins and we follow a young “Quirk-less” Japanese middle schooler, Midoriya Izuku who wishes to grow up and become a hero just like his idol, All Might.
The first episode of the fifth season of ‘My Hero Academia’ is currently available for streaming on Netflix. The other four seasons of the same anime are also available for streaming on Netflix.
