Napoleon And Hunger Games Obliterates Disney’s Wish In Weekend BO, Again!

For Indian fans, the fireworks have already been lit as “Animal” not only conquered the National Box Office, but it also continued the rampage mood set by Ranveer Kapoor off the screen. By a big margin, “Animal” became the beast and grossed $42.1M.

But who became the best of the rest?

Ridley Scott and Joaquin Phoenix’s partnership is indeed a strong one. Despite predictions of a slow start or even failure, “Napoleon” showed why it is one of the masterminds of the war. In previous instances, it was said that “Napoleon” would be crushed by the Disney princess, but the wish turned out to be untrue as the tables were turned.

This weekend, “Napoleon” managed to gross $35.7M worldwide, and its international dominance continued as $28.6M of that total is from outside the USA market. As it is nearing release in some other markets, including South Korea, it won’t see a stiff drop in the numbers. “Napoleon” also crossed the $137M mark in lifetime collection.

It was then followed by “Hunger Games,” which again continued its box office success and grossed $29.4M globally, taking its lifetime tally to $244M. It also continued its international success as the non-USA audience contributed $123M to that lifetime collection.

Beyoncé also continued the success of concert films in the post-Taylor era as she managed to gross $27.4M. Just in the USA market, “Renaissance” also opened at the No. 1 spot in the domestic USA market with $21M.

Despite Thanksgiving weekend and the last one, it looks like Disney is losing its charm. “Wish” continued to underperform, making it rank fifth in the global box office. Disney is also reportedly failing to attract younger generations, similar to what MCU faced as one of the victims of a similar problem.

Grossing just $26.2M in the last weekend seems like a big problem for the franchise, as Disney also experimented this time and went away from the ongoing trends that they have been following since “Tangled.”
