The Todd Haynes directional is a drama revolving around a popular actress, Elizabeth Berry (played by Natalie Portman). She goes to Savannah, Georgia, to research her forthcoming role in an indie project based on Gracie (Julianne Moore) – a woman notorious for her two-decades-long relationship with her Korean-American husband, Joe (Charles Melton). Gracie had her first intercourse with Joe when he was only 13 years old. In addition, she gave birth to Joe’s child during her prison sentence.
Critical reception towards May December has been mostly positive, with critics especially praising Samy Burch’s bold (and a bit discomforting) script. Burch has also received a nomination at the 96th Academy Awards in the Best Original Screenplay category. It also received four nominations at the 81st Golden Globes. On Rotten Tomatoes, it maintains a ‘fresh’ critic score of 90% based on 294 reviews.
May December stars Natalie Portman, Julianne Moore, Charles Melton, Cory Michael Smith, Elizabeth Yu, and more. Stay tuned for more updates.
