National Treasure 3 Receives A Positive Update From Director

Friends, National Treasure 3 is far from being declared dead! Franchise helmer Jon Turteltaub has offered an exciting update about the long-gestating threequel. The movie’s been stuck in development since 2008, but it seems things might be moving forward again.

Turteltaub recently appeared on the official National Treasure podcast, via ComicBook, where he discussed the third National Treasure movie in detail. In addition, he revealed that his team had started working on the threequel’s script. However, he did not disclose the writer’s name.

“There’s a very, very good writer writing it right now who tends to write really good movies. If the script comes out close to good and you can see the finish line from where you are, we’re making the movie.”

Turteltaub’s recent comments are in alignment with what producer Jerry Bruckheimer said about National Treasure 3 some time ago. Bruckheimer did not confirm Nicolas Cage’s return to the third entry. But Turteltaub strongly believes that the actor will return surely to play the iconic and skilled historian and treasure hunter, Ben Gates.

We haven’t seen a National Treasure movie since Book of Secrets hit theaters way back in 2007 – nearly 17 years ago. Kicking off in 2004, the original National Treasure minted over $347 million worldwide. While the sequel didn’t quite capture the same critical acclaim, it still collected a global box office haul of nearly $460 million.

More details about National Treasure 3 are expected to surface soon. You can stream all National Treasure movies on Disney+ Hotstar. Stay tuned for more updates.
