When news of Nayanthara reuniting with her ‘Maya’ director Ashwin Saravanan surfaced, fans and movie-buffs couldn’t keep their calm. Horror genre that saw a sludge in Tamil Cinema since quite some time now finally is seeing a ray of hope in ‘Connect’, as it reunites the duo that gave us Maya, a game changer in Nayanthara’s career.
The teaser was released on Nayanthara’s birthday and now we have the official trailer. And needless to say, we are definitely in for a scary ride. The trailer is crisply edited and gives us a sneak peek at the world of Connect. It shows Nayanthara and family’s happy moments prior to the national lockdown (due to covid-19 pandemic) and how things took a scary turn on the day of lockdown announcement. There are visuals of a child trying the Ouija board and evil spirits haunting the house soon after. The crux of the film seems to be based on an exorcism that needs to be performed amidst lockdown restrictions via internet.
The tagline of Connect is “The Devil doesn’t leave quietly” and is reminiscent of many Hollywood exorcist films we’ve seen over the years. The trailer also confirmed that Connect will be an intermission-less 99 minutes long horror experience. If anything, the teaser and trailer has only gotten us more excited. Connect looks like a package that would amp up the chills and jump-scares, this Christmas season.
The film marks Nayanthara’s return to Horror after 2019 film ‘Airaa’. Connect is written by Ashwin Saravanan himself along with Kaavya Ramkumar. Anupam Kher, Sathyaraj , Vinay Rai and Haniya Nafis co-star Nayanthara in the film. The horror thriller is produced by Vignesh Sivan’s Rowdy Pictures Pvt Ltd. The movie is set to hit the theatres on 22 December 2022. Let us hope for Maya and Game Over Magic to repeat this Christmas.
