Neglected Malayalam Series ‘Instagramam’ Teaser Released, BUT….. Where Are The Buyers?

Last month, we had informed our readers about the shocking stepmotherly treatment meted out to long-completed Malayalam web series ‘Instagraamam‘. Apparently, the web series has been complete since a long time, but no OTT platform wants to buy it for streaming. The reason – it is in the Malayalam language, and streaming platforms say there are no viewers for Malayalam web series.

This evening, the first teaser for Instagraamam was released by prominent film industry personalities like Dileep, Asif Ali, Aashiq Abu, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Tamannah Bhatia, Jacqueline Fernandez, among other celebrities. The teaser is sharp, gripping and brims with intelligent wit and humour. Instagraamam is set in the fictional island of Andippara, and revolves around a series of hilarious events and happenings.

Instagraamam has been created by Malayalam filmmaker Mridul Nair, who had earlier made the well-received film BTech. The series boasts a huge ensemble cast, including well known names such as Deepak Parambol, Ganapathy, Alencier, Aditi Ravi, Sunny Wayne and Saniya Iyappan.

But shockingly, the series still does not have buyers. The teaser of Instagraamam does not mention where the series will stream – a prime indicator that it is still lying unsold and no streaming platform has picked it up as yet.

Earlier, Mridul Nair had expressed his surprise at the shocking bias towards Malayalam series, this despite the fact that the Malayalam film industry is one of the foremost in the country.

Mridul Nair was shocked and disappointed to learn that his completed web series ‘Instagraamam’ has no takers in the Indian OTT industry. And only because it is in Malayalam!

Shared Mridul Nair, in a statement to a news agency, “Instagraamam was Malayalam’s first full-fledged web series with almost 60 actors including Deepak Parambol, Ganapathy, Alencier, Aditi Ravi, Sunny Wayne and Saniya Iyappan. But when we approached OTT platforms, they said they weren’t even looking at Malayalam series because we didn’t have a market. They wanted Tamil, Telugu or Hindi. That was disappointing because the entire country looks up to Malayalam content.”

His statement makes you wonder about the bias prevalent in OTT circles against Malayalam content. The first posters of Instagraamam had been released by none other than Malayalam superstar, Mammootty.

The teaser looks terrific, promising an exciting watch for viewers of good content. Maybe, after the release of the teaser, and the buzz it generates, streaming platforms will express interest in Instagraamam.
