Netflix has acquired the US rights for Academy Award nominee Liam Neeson’s upcoming film ‘The Ice Road’. As per reports, promo of the action-thriller film was enough for the streaming giant to go ahead with the deal that is said to be around $18 million!
The deal, which had many contenders, took place during the European Film Market (EFM) over the weekend and is supposedly, a one of a kind domestic-only deal of the event. Netflix’s deal for ‘The Ice Road’ was brokered by CAA Media finance.
‘The Ice Road’ has been written and directed by Jonathan Hensleigh (‘Die Hard With A Vengeance’, ‘Armageddon’). The story of the film is follows an ice driver (Liam Neeson) who heads an dreadful rescue mission over a frozen ocean, to save trapped miners after a remote diamond mine collapses in the far northern regions of Canada. The mission gets risky with thawing waters and an unforeseen threat.
Apart from Neeson, ‘The Ice Road’ also stars Laurence Fishburne and has been produced by CODE Entertainment alongside ShivHans Pictures and Envision Media Arts.
Further details about the film’s release date on Netflix are yet to be revealed
