Netflix dropped a short 1-minute teaser for its upcoming American-French survival thriller, ’Oxygen’. We already got a look at the movie when stills from the movie were released around 2 weeks ago. Horror filmmaker Alexandre Aja is directing this project. Check out the teaser at the end of the article.
The teaser of ‘Oxygen’ starts off with a classic “Where Am I?” asked by the lead protagonist. Coupled with a person taking deep breaths in the background, the ominous background music’s effect intensifies. Melanie Laurent, who portrays the protagonist, wakes up in a cryo chamber without any memory of who she is and how she got there. As she contemplates why she can’t remember, she notices that the chamber is currently using the oxygen from its reserve chamber and it has around 22% of O2 left.
Now she has to race against the clock to remember something so that she can save herself. The futility/ impossibility of her task is represented as a mouse trying to get out of a maze in the trailer (We think). As the teaser picks up and the edits in the teaser become faster, the speed of the sound of the intense breath taking increases as well. At the end of the teaser, she finds out that her memory is being kept from her but she can still be “helped”.
Mathieu Amalric and Malik Zidi star in ‘Oxygen’ alongside Laurent. Christie LeBlanc penned the screenplay while Herve Schneid edited the survivor horror. Alexandre Aja also produced the Netflix original as well with Grégory Levasseur, Vincent Maraval, Brahim Chioua and Noëmie Devide.
‘Oxygen’ will be available for streaming on Netflix on 12th May 2021.
