News was already floating around that Shweta Tripathi would be making her way into Netflix. It has been now confirmed that she will be playing the titular character of the upcoming web-series “Naina”. Earlier, there wasn’t much information, but as 2021 rolled in, more and more information has been pouring regarding the show. A recent news update revealed that Shweta Tripathi will be paired up against Tahir Raj Bhasin, who also has received immense success through his small but utterly significant roles. He has earlier acted in Mardaani and Force 2 as a villain and has made his mark in it. His upcoming movie will be the much-awaited ’83, which follows the journey of the Indian team as it won its first Cricket World Cup in 1983.
Coming back to the web series being produced by Netflix, “Naina” will be a political drama that will mostly focus on Shweta Tripathi’s love life and the couple’s romance. The show will have Uttar Pradesh as its backdrop. It is still unclear whether the web-series will have the sweetness of the romance more or the bitterness of the politics more. The makers have said that they want Shweta to have a girl next door vibe and wanted her to take people on the journey to show the other sides of politics, which normally stays hidden in the intense dramas focusing on politics.
We already have a super intense political drama coming in this January. Tandav already has set the bar high, even before it has released, for other political dramas. It is just a matter of a few days now for it to be released. With “Naina” coming in with the other side of politics and a romantic angle at the center of it will seemingly make things more interesting. Also as the makers have already mentioned the kind of vibe they would want from their lead actress, it seems like they would like to lead it in a completely different manner for this one.
Along with Shweta and Tahir, Peepingmoon.com has mentioned that Sapna Pabbi, Kumud Mishra, Vijay Tilani too will be seen in pivotal roles in the series. Filmmaker Siddharth Sengupta is directing and producing the show under his banner Edgestorm Productions. The actors are shooting for the series, as we speak, it is said to be wrapped up by the end of February.
