Netflix Bags Top Korean Star’s Next K-Drama; Streaming Soon

Korean actress Kim Hye-soo is one of the most popular stars in the Korean show business. Her last outing was in Netflix’s ‘Juvenile Justice’ where she played cold-hearted juvenile judge Shim Eun-Seok. The series was a huge success and was the most popular non-English show for two weeks straight on Netflix globally. The actress’s upcoming series too will be streamed internationally on Netflix.

The ace actress’s new series has been titled ‘Under the Queen’s Umbrella’ and will start streaming from October 15, 2022, onwards. The series has been billed as a historical and black comedy and will also star Kang Chan-hee (SKY Castle) and Moon Sang-min, with ‘Big Mouth’ actress Ok Ja-Yeon also appearing in a supporting role.

The series deals with the top 1% education method used to make the troublemaker princes of the state who cause nuisance for the royal family into proper princes. Kim Hye-Soo will play the Queen of the state and the series will be more focused on the trials and tribulations she will face as a mother. The storyline thread is: “How far is a mother willing to go for her children?” and that is exactly what it seems we can expect from the series.

With other competitors aiming for the throne, the Queen would have to do all she can to make sure one of her sons will inherit the throne. The political games being played for the throne will surely provide exciting and thrilling moments, as seen in the trailer. The teaser released has the Queen disgruntled at having to maintain appearances but having a missing shoe and such because she is busy looking after her trouble-making sons.

Kim Hye-Soo will be familiar to Indian fans from the hit TV content like fantasy police series ‘Signal’ and legal thriller ‘Hyena’, both of which are available for streaming on Netflix.

‘Under the Queen’s Umbrella’ is reported to have 16 episodes in the first season and will have 2 episodes released every week, on Saturdays and Sundays. The series teasers look very promising and with Kim Hye-Soo on board, the series will definitely be worth a try.
