Netflix Buys Black Comedy Movie Don’t Look Up by Adam Mckay, With Jennifer Lawrence as Lead

By Binged Rashmi Paharia - February 20, 2020 @ 4:28 pm

Netflix announced recently that it has bought Adam McKay’s still-in-development satirical comedy, Don’t Look Up. The movie will star Jennifer Lawrence as lead protagonist, along with an as-yet-unnamed co-protagonist.

Netflix will develop the movie as a Netflix Original film, and plans to get it up and ready in time for a late 2020 release.
The narrative revolves around a pair of young lower level astronomers who discover that an asteroid is approaching Earth, which may collide with the planet and destroy everything within minutes. The duo must warn the world about the danger to strike it, through a large-scale media tour. Don’t Look Up is a black comedy, with hints of satire adding to the mix.

Jennifer Lawrence’s appearance in the movie addresses a long-standing demand of fans to see her in a comedy flick. Don’t Look Up is likely to fulfil that criterion, with its focus on drawing laughs.
